These are the days where relations between the people are strained. Whether it be between friends, between family members or between colleagues. One of the primary reason is the ego that is associated with us. Ego may be a simple 3-letter word but if it enters a relation no one can mind. While, ego is definitely one factor, one another factor is the way we see people from our heart and think about them in our mind. While I write this, one well known phrase flashed across my mind, "First impression is the best impression". Yes, as humans we always believe in this phrase. We start believing in what we see and make many assumptions out of it. On the way to assumptions, we create lot of stories by ourselves and sadly most of these thoughts are around negative thoughts. we don't tend to realize that we loose something valuable because of these thoughts and unfortunately, when we realize that our assumptions are baseless and totally untrue we will already be on the brink of loosing the relation.
I thought of relating the way we think and the way we see things by a simple example. One day it rained heavily and i took my car out after that rain. I was driving along in the late evening and realized that the wiper of my car was not working. As it rained previously, the window view was little hazy and I tried to run my wiper and the view got worse. I had a hard time driving the car for sometime and it was a single road which turned the drive more dangerous. The strong light bean from the opposite vehicles made the situation tricky and at one point of time I thought to stop aside on the road and clean the glass. But decided to drive around 20-30 kmph. I have been driving at the same speed for the last one hour. As i moved along at the same speed, after few minutes and Within a fraction of seconds from then , my attention got diverted as there was my favorite song played on the radio inside the car. I started enjoying the song and almost drove 10 kms from there unnoticed hearing to other songs. And hard to believe that my speed was increased to 40-50 kmph and I drove 10 km. Minutes ago which was a horrible drive turned into a smooth drive.
In the above scenario, my focus was on the negatives initially and when something comfortable and which I liked set in, I started enjoying and forgot everything. This simple analogy can always be applied to life. if we start focusing on positives and enjoy everything that comes our way, we might see good people around us. If we focus only on people's negatives, we end up lonely. From now on, in tricky situations, I will definitely remember this drive and drive my mind towards positive thoughts.
