Go Green - Are we following it?

I was driving on a mid-summer day in a full traffic zone with sun at its peak. The AC was running at its peak inside the vehicle and still it was not cool inside.  I started driving the car under the shade of a flyover where it was less hot. Then I discussed with my family members inside in a very disappointed tone regarding the place where we had to opt for a shade. Previously, people used to take shade under a tree as there were too many trees available, now it is less frequent that you see a tree on a busy road with more number of concrete structures available under which we had to duck for shade.  Instantly, a question flashed through my mind? What are we doing to ourselves? Are we destroying our mother earth and in turn mother earth in a mad rush of development? In a world where innovation is a buzz word, can’t one scientist come out and find an alternate option to the traffic needs? Can’t such a guy think of some alternate option without destroying the greenery around? Or in fact for finding such an option really a scientist is required? We as human beings take care of our family, struggle day and night to feed and protect our family. Can’t we treat each tree surrounding us as a family member and protect it? Can’t we plant one tree from our side and nurture it as we do with our kids? After all a human can be selfish but not a tree which always gives us fresh air. We used to read that Bangalore is called the Garden city of India. Now if your go to Bangalore we might have to think twice why it is called so. The reason being the destruction of trees done in the name of development.
When I went to get my learning license of my vehicle, the backside of the learning license paper was printed this way. “Please, plant a sapling on the occasion of you getting a learner’s license”. After reading that I felt very happy and felt that yes there is someone who is very much serious about the nature. And too being a transport development taking that initiation, it gave more joy.  But to be frank I did not plant a sapling and I bet no one who was handed over the learner’s license would have done so. The reason being the casual nature of the people. If such a government puts a condition that you have to plant a sapling and you have to post a video and in such a condition only your learners will be approved, then everyone would have followed.

There are “Go Green” initiatives everywhere. A simple scenario will explain you and make you think the utter waste of conducting some of these Go Green initiatives.  A 10K run/5K run/1K run or a walkathon will be conducted to bring awareness among people regarding the depreciating greenery. There will be a huge gathering with caps/t-shirts/flexi banners/pamphlets, etc., People gather on their weekend participate in the event and will have fun in the event and then take rest after going home. But the actual motto of the event is not understood and because of which the event instead of bringing awareness is bringing more pollution and damage. Can’t we do a simple walk without t-shirt, cap, etc.,? Can’t we as human beings think of nature and volunteer ourselves in protecting trees/Greenery around? Do only events bring motivation in us? Can’t we be self-motivated? Lot of questions but no answers. The reason being that we want entertainment; we want to live joyful life and not bothered about our mother earth and our future generations. Just think twice and you can change yourself and others. We just need to educate others who can’t think of consequences of destructing a tree. If you see someone destructing a tree, can’t you just on behalf of the tree and question the guy who is destructing it? If you do so, you are thinking about yourself, thinking about mother earth, thinking about future generations. If you do so, you are definitely a champion. And you can be one among the person whom Dwayne Bravo refers as champions. “X is a champion, Y is champion, etc., “.
