The Mystery of Room#7

The college was in the remote place and was not easy to reach the place. So, the admissions were low but to the mystery of others, the pass percentage from the college was high and university topper was always from that college. As per the information outside, the college had a below average staff and even the students were not so agile and competitive as compared to city college. But it was always a mystery that college stood top in studies at the end of academic year. The same college produced bright engineers who settled in various higher positions. People who couldn't settle always struggled from some or the other health issues and expired. This was another mystery. None of the people in the city understood why this was happening. But everyone were happy that engineers prospered and the college management was double happy that their admissions increased and their college was on the Top-10 list of engineering colleges.

For all, it was as usual and no one was bothered. It has become common every year that college tops the list. One day young and dynamic news reporter from a renewed news paper and channel got eager to know the secret behind the surprising results from the college. He met several people around the college, principal, management and several students but none of them answered his doubts. It was exams time for that academic year and he chose to go to the college for getting to know more things. His doubt was that there was mass copying happening in the college and management was promoting it for their college benefits.

The reporter saw a guy coming out of the exam hall on the last day of the college. The guy was happy and he was overjoyed because he was sure that he is going to be the topper. The guy is a close relative of the reporter and knew him as a mischievous one with poor academic records. The reporter waved at the guy and both started talking with each other. In between the words, the reporter asked him how he was so confident that he would top the university. The guy answered that he worked hard for the last 3 months. The reporter knew that the guy was on a foreign trip for the last 3 months and he paid 1 Lakh to cover up the attendance. The reporter now got confirmed that there was something fishy here. He pressurized the guy to tell the truth and the poor guy was left shivering and was not willing to reveal the truth. The reporter pressurized him and assured him that he will not reveal anywhere. The guy had no other option to reveal the happenings and he started speaking out.

He explained,"There was room no#7, in the hostel premises which is treated lucky by students. When the college started long back in 1982, the guys who used to stay in that room worked hard and stayed topper in the college. They always had a dream to be university topper. Even though they could not compete with the city college in any aspect, the guys in that room used to have the determination and work hard for the top spot. Several students failed to reach university ranking but were toppers in the college. Leave alone, university ranking, these guys were well below the city college percentages. One year, a calm going, determine guy joined the college and worked hard till the last year to maintain good percentage and stood beyond the reach of city students also. He was tipped to be the university topper after the last year. His dream, his goal were only top university rank. He had his friend studying the city college and a close competitor for him. Unfortunately, in the last year he missed the university top rank by 1% and he could not take it positively. He committed suicide in the room#7 hostel room. This was sensational news and as a result room#7 was closed for long long days. This happened in 1993, and after several years in 2004, a new batch joined the college. One guy Rahul among the batch of students was always bold and adventurous guy. He was interested to stay only in Room#7 and made the management to open the room after a long 11 years. Rahul knew the story of the suicide. Rahul was always a back bencher and a guy who was the most lazy and irregular guy in the college. He always used to say that he changed the name and fame of Room#7. Room#7 was always known for students with merit but this guy changed everything. The guy who committed suicide became a ghost and was watching all this along. He wanted to Rahul a fitting lesson. He once appeared before Rahul and out of fear Rahul started running out of room. when he tried to open the door of the room, he realized that doors were locked and Rahul was left with no choice but to listen to the ghost. The ghost made Rahul to study for the supplementary exams and final exams. The ghost warned Rahul that if he reveals to anyone about my existence, he would die in te very next moment. Rahul was scared and when the final university results were announced, Rahul was the university topper in terms of percentage. He scored 92%. Everyone were amazed and congratulated Rahul. The college management announced a cash prize of $10,000. Rahul could not keep the secret for long and while having tea with her girl friend Meenu, roadside, he explained everything to her. The next instant he was crashed to death by a fast moving lorry. Meenu was shocked and collapsed on the spot. This was all kept secret by Meenu as she feared that she might have the same punishment as Rahul. Whomsoever stayed in the Room#7 used to be the topper and knew that ghost existed, they
didn't have the guts to speak out."

After explaining the whole story to the reporter, the guy walked away in fear and taking few steps, he expired of a cardiac arrest. The reporter was just speechless and left shocked. He felt bad that he made the guy to reveal the truth. He also out of fear of the death, kept calm and walked away. The secret of room#7 was mystery forever for the outsiders and for the students who went in was like a dream come true and obviously heart stopping moments.
