There were two friends in a city who were also colleagues in a small company. They always used to have a good time together. The best place for them to meet was a tea stall near their company. They used to chat, have fun, share gossips, share thoughts and of course a puff of smoke together at that tea stall. Near that tea stall, there were trees and one tree was very special where birds used to build their nests. Even though there were several trees, that was somehow favored by the birds. Both the friends used to talk a lot about the birds and their nests and amid their relaxation at the tea stall, the tree used to take a special mention in their discussions.
One among the friends, went onsite for a project and the other guy was left alone for some months. The guy used to go the same tea stall and have tea but always focused on some other things that the trees and surroundings aside. This guy is more focused and workaholic. For him completing the things was the highest priority. After a span of 6 months, his friend returned from onsite and as usual they went to have a tea at that stall. When they reached the stall, the guy who returned from onsite observed that the tree which had birds and their nests was no more there. He immediately pointed out to his friend and his friend was surprised that it wasn't there. He just told that he didn't observe that at all. They felt bad that the tree which was once a point of discussion was no more at that place.
Now, he actual point of the story here is that, the guy who left to onsite was a casual guy with a more casual approach things and work. He was always good at observation and it helped him a lot in life many times and sometimes at some crucial points in projects. Projects were somewhat delayed because of him due to casual approach. Coming to the other guy, he was focused, hard worker and a definite finisher. His focus on the projects always isolates him from the external world. This focus only made him think more about strategies and execution of the project and he could not even observe that a tree which was more discussed about in his life has gone. Now, coming to a situation in companies and decision to be made on what kind of guys are required, it is always that both these guys are necessary. Without either of these guys, projects can't run. One can help finish and once can pitch in with fresh thoughts and observations in case of issues. Again it is always the onus of the management to handle the people and scenarios to keep the ball rolling.
