The match was played in Wanda Metropolitano. this was new home stadium for Athletico Madrid replacing the older Vicente Calderon Stadium. Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid are now 10 points adrift of the leaders Barcelona. Real Madrid are third and Athletico Madrid are fourth in the la liga standings. Valencia stand second with still a game in hand.
