For the people working in the industry, promotion is always a major target and getting that Project Manager post is like one of the major targets achieved in the industry. But the actual problems start there when one becomes a project manager. Before proceeding further one has to understand what are the responsibilities of Project Manager. The people within the industry know the role of Project Manager but outsiders need to know what he does.
Project Manager is one who is responsible for a project delivery, he is the one who co-ordinates the team, tracks the project status, identify the issues and solve them, guide the team, identify the needs of the team and maintain discipline within the team. While every aspect of his role is icing on the cake for him, one task which he does is what creates problem for him everywhere. That is nothing but maintaining discipline within the team. While this is also icing on the cake job for him, it is also the one which gives him sleepless nights. When we say sleepless nights, it is not because of project delivery or in fact not at all related to the job he is working.
So, now we are anxious to know why discipline is the horrible word and deed in Project Manager life. Project Manager ensures in his job that his team is disciplined and focused towards work. But once he is out of his job, for example when he starts driving home, he sees no one follows rules and drive on roads as per their will. Now like how he controls his team, he wants to preach and teach discipline on the roads and he ends up fighting with the guys on the road, which kills his mental balance and shoots his blood pressure.
The project manager reaches home and sees that his kids are totally out of control. He could neither control them nor scold them. He wanted to implement the same discipline at home as well but he can never do that. The same is the case with his wife, where things totally out of control and the word discipline can't even be uttered in this case. He travels to various places with his family and his family members throw garbage on the road without even bothering about looking for dustbins. He tries to preach and teach again but no one is bothered to listen.
He faces this tricky situations, at all places, whether it be movie theater, railway station, air terminals or in that case any public place. He being a strict Project Manager ensuring discipline in his project execution, curses himself that he can't maintain and inspire people in his personal life. He can explain this to anyone as more people would show sympathy rather than giving solutions. As a Project Manager he could control 100 people in his team but he can't control two to three people at his home or in his surroundings. This in fact is a very strange situation he finds himself in.
